The Crucible at The Old Vic

The Old Vic has a special place in my heart. From the very first time I visited the theatre I fell in love and from now on I want to go and see as many good plays as possible.

Last week, I headed out to the theatre to see the wonderful Richard Armitage who ambitiously has taken up the role of John Proctor in Arthur Miller's classic American drama "The Crucible". South African Yael Farber directs this production of Miller's story of the 1692 Salem witch trials in Massachusetts. Set  in a small town, it follows the story of John Proctor, whose affair with  Abigail sets in motion a cycle of revenge and accusations of witchcraft that will tear apart the fragile community with deadly consequences.

The current run will play until 13th September

Richard Armitage has a wonderfully deep, rich voice that brings such authority to his character. He will have you hooked. I hope his voice holds up for the whole run. This is a play not to be missed!

Have a great week!!

One Year Older...

I have been so busy lately that I barely have time to organise my thoughts, let alone writing a post. So a couple of weeks ago it was my birthday. I am not a big fan of birthdays and that is why I did not make a big fuss about it. Plus, it was just when I came back from my holiday and I had so much work. I literally spent my "special" day at work but truth to be told I had some fun ;)

I decided to officially celebrate with a couple of friends last Sunday and we gathered at Bill's in Putney, my favorite spot in the area, chatting and having fun over a glass of wine and some food. Additional presents were given to me and I just love opening them and guessing what's underneath the wrapping paper. I am quite good at this ;-)

Yeah that is me!! A year older and so much wiser...

I just love the cards that Laura picks!!!
I cannot have fun with an empty stomach...
Mastering the technique of unwrapping ;-)
Someone knows that I love fans....
... and scarves!!
Canan, me, Manveen and some beautiful smiles :)
I love being around people who make me smile and laugh uncontrollably and I hope I put a smile back on their faces as well. We have to keep the balance there ;) Today it is Canan's birthday and this lucky girl is flying to the beautiful Greek island of Zante to celebrate her special day the Greek way!!! I am sure it will be a fantastic one!!

Have a great weekend!!

The Things I Love...

Hello everyone! Hope you all had an amazing weekend and you are enjoying the summer days and nights.  I thought of taking the 10 things I love challenge today and sprinkle you all with some positive energy. Try to find ten things that you love as well, as an act of appreciating, focusing on what you value and why you value it.

Here goes...

I love walking in the sand barefoot
I love people who smile with their eyes
I love kindness
I love looking straight into the sun for a few minutes with closed eyes
I love hugs
I love August's full moon
I love being old and feeling young
I love Shakespeare's quotes
I love Vivaldi's Four Seasons
I love lying on the park and watching the clouds moving

Have a great week and keep smiling no matter what...!!

Young Vic: It's a Big World in Here

Theatre relaxes me, amuses me, makes me think and overall makes me a happy girl. I love getting to the foyer to collect my ticket, enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of coffee (depending if it is a matinee performance or an evening one) before the show and finding my way to my seat.

A few weeks ago, on a rainy Saturday I visited the Young Vic, located near the South Bank in the London Borough of Lambeth. Red Forest was on, a series of divine true stories from around the world  and woven together with stunning video and hypnotic live music (the best part of the play).

The Bar / Restaurant area is so cozy and relaxing. My cappuccino came with a heart and chocolate on the top, exactly how I like it ;)

A Streetcar Named Desire starts showing on the 23rd July and I am so gutted that it is already sold out. However, there are a lot of other promising plays on the agenda and I am sure I will visit the Young Vic pretty soon.

While on holidays in Thessaloniki I took a break from my theatre activities (I wanted to visit the National Theatre of Northern Greece but there was barely enough time, maybe next time as I will be visiting again soon) and last night I watched my first play since I came back. More on this on a future post along with a very amorous play that I am watching tonight :)

Have a great weekend!!

Chanel's Métiers d'Art Paris-Dallas 2013/14 Campaign

A few weeks ago I visited Chanel's offices in the Green Park area to get close and personal with some pieces of the new Paris-Dallas Collection. It is needless to say that it was love at first sight. Chanel always has this effect on me. I can't fight it ;)

Kristen Stewart fronts Chanel's Métiers d'Art Paris-Dallas 2013/14 collection campaign shot by the house's Creative Director, Carl Lagerfeld. I find the shots really fierce, what do you think?

I was extremely happy to leave with a Chanel goody bag with some amazing face creams that I have yet to try.

The weekend is fast approaching and I hope you are all excited about this. The weather in London is at its best and highest. The forecast for tomorrow says that we might experience temperatures as high as 32 degrees. The sun is out and the clothes are finally minimal.

Have a great afternoon!!

Germany vs Argentina World Cup Final 2014

I love fashion and I kinda love football as well. So given that The World Cup will draw to a close at the Maracana tonight, I thought of combining the two into a post.

Germany are just one match away from a fourth World Cup success and becoming the first European side to win a World Cup on Latin American soil. They have overcome a group that featured Portugal, the US and Ghana, before seeing off Algeria and France without the need of extra-time and penalties (this is so nerve-racking!!).

Then they astonishingly dismantled hosts Brazil, with a record-breaking 7-1 victory (who can forget that?) and begun to flirt with greatness.

Argentina on the other side looks to Messi to carry them over the line (can he do it?). Despite a disappointing display in the semi-final, when he failed to touch the ball  as much as it was needed he might be saving the best for last and could turn a big game in a flash, bringing home the World Cup for the first time since 1986 when the team was captained by Maradona.

Well, time will tell. The game kicks off at 8pm and I will be watching ;-)

Have a great Sunday!!

Masterpiece London 2014

A few weeks ago I had the chance to visit Masterpiece London, an art and antiques fair now in its fifth year, that took place on the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Theo Fennell, who was exhibiting his exquisite jewellery pieces, had been kind enough to invite me to the fair and I simply could not miss the event.

The entrance and the red carpet

One of the pieces that I really liked was Not Your Bitch by Scott Campbell (available at Mount Street Galleries).

Photographs were not generally allowed so my camera had a quiet afternoon. I had so much fun taking a ride on these cute golf carts that were patiently waiting for us. Mind you, they were going pretty fast and I had to hold on tight :-)

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! And for the fans of the World Cup enjoy the two games to come!

White Truffles in Winter

I have freshly arrived from the beautiful and sunny Thessaloniki and a rainy and pretty miserable London welcomed me in a way that nobody wants to be welcomed really. But what can you say? Some things never change, London will always be London.

I wish my holiday break was a bit longer though..I had such an amazing time. I enjoyed the sun, the food, a few glasses of wine (my intake of resveratrol has always been modest ;-), hanging out, drinking lots of strong coffee (just the way I like it), not wearing a watch and barely checking on the time. It was a holiday with purely relaxation purposes that served them straight up.

Knowing me it is unimaginable not to have a book with me simply because reading really relaxes me. I have to admit that I was a fairly slow reader this time (so unusual of me) and I simply put the blame on my very tired mind from all work related issues.

My book of choice was "White Truffles in Winter" by N.M. Kelby. It was something in the title that intrigued me when I was browsing at the library the afternoon before I flied to Greece and made me pick it. The book imagines the world of the remarkable French chef Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935), who changed the way we eat through his legendary restaurants at the Savoy and the Ritz. A man of contradictions, Escoffier was also torn between two women: the famous, beautiful and reckless actress Sarah Bernhardt and his wife, the independent and sublime poet Delphine Daffis.

A tale of extraordinary people entangled in a captivating love story that I would strongly recommend reading.

Have a great day!

Bon Appétit...

It is not only the sun that I like once I am on a holiday in Greece but the food as well. It feels that everything here has a different taste. Once I am by the sea my appetite grows bigger and I am enjoying everything most. This is a post full of food, beautiful photos and almost everything I have tasted so far while I am in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki, north Greece. Enjoy the photos and Bon Appetit!!

I love a good mushroom risotto...

Greek Ouzo...

More ouzo...

Lots of summer kisses from Thessaloniki :-)
